In 1857, the young Dominique Francois Laurier accompanied his father, a Haitian diplomat, on a trade mission to Washington D.C. While in Washington, the two were betrayed, captured, and sold into slavery. They were quickly spirited out of the area to the plantation, called the Homestead, of John Mavill Slaughter in Talladega County, AL.
There the young Dominique was first called Kyle by his father to protect his real identity. Later, he took the last name of the plantation owner and was subsequently known as Kyle Slaughter. After four years, Kyle’s father was killed by a train, and Kyle executed his planned escape from the plantation. He created several diversions and escaped during the confusion into the night taking only a little food. A bounty was immediately placed on his head, and, as time passed, the bounty grew quite large. It grew even larger as rumors spread that Kyle had knowledge of vast treasure troves hidden by his ancestors who were seagoing pirates. He was pursued by slave catchers, by bounty hunters, by reward seeking posses, and by the governments of both the Northern and the Southern States who desired the riches of the hidden treasures for their war chests. Most brutal of all of his pursuers were Shingos, the Heathen, and his spiritual advisor Apotay, who led a huge band of American Indians of several tribes. The Pursuit of Kyle Slaughter begins in Alabama, continues in a series of intense conflicts across the South, and ends in the sun-scorched wasteland of the Sonora Desert in Arizona.
“The Pursuit of Kyle Slaughter” is the first publication in a multi-volume epic.

I don't usually read this genre, but was looking for something totally different to read this summer. I was surprised that I got hooked on this story line so quickly. It was an enjoyable, read with just the right amount of action. I liked that the "bad man" wasn't one dimensional, and he had just enough of an edge to him. I will definitely be on the look out for the next installment . I will recommend ( I already did!) this book to my friends.Product details

I thought this was a great read. A little slow at first. But got very good as I got into the book.
Good read, great action, realistic character personalties, interestingly takes you back to a famous time in US history, makes the reader anxious for a/the sequel(s)
